Tip #3 - Spinning wheel

Hello everyone.

A quick tip on how to make a spinning wheel in Anime Studio Pro.

Here is the file.

http://www.mediafire.com/?n8149p01oawe0ly

The wheel is made of one vector layer.

Shape fill order is used to hide the extremities of the spokes on the right.

The cycle is made of an action with two keyframes that are hand animated using onion skin as reference.

Here is a small video (no sound) showing how to animate the spokes.

  1. Hi Gilles,

The effect is very cool. Only two frames but it makes a realistic animation. I downloaded the file and can play it but I don't understand how it works. I'm a bit dense... I'd like to understand how you did this but it evades me.

  4. Thanks Gilles,

You are so kind. I see how you did it now. I see how you hand animated, used onion skin as a guide, and used the cycle effect to loop the animation. I saw you created an action menu and named it "turn" too; however, that bit still has me confused. What is the purpose of making the action and naming it? If I do your same steps and ask it to cycle it still looks the same... What can we do with the named action once it is created?

    Many thanks,

  5. Hello again Aaron.

The fun thing with actions is that You can reuse them at will.

So say You make an action where a character waves his arm, You can then place that action several times on the timeline, then You can modify some of its parameters, depending if You copied it to the timeline or cloned it.

If You cloned it, then You only need to modify the action in the action window to have the modification being reflected on all the cloned actions on the timeline.
