Welcome to my blog

My name is Gilles Charbonneau

I am a long time 2d animator and I would like to share with you some of the tips and tricks I have learned over the years by posting tutorials and articles on this blog.

Word Balloons

Anime Studio Pro and Debut now supports word balloons within the text editor, but they only come with one simple balloon, so I made a few more, the most common, which You can find here.

Then You only need to put these into your Anime Studio content folder, under Word Balloons, then they will show up in the text editor.

The one thing You need to understand about word balloons, is that they are relative to your text size, so just enter your text, select the size for it, then set the size relative to text option so the balloon wraps around the text the way you like.

Usually a size setting of 100% gives a regular balloon, but You can play with the settings and get different effects.

  1. Great Gilles. It's so good to receive your inspirational input.
    Kind regards

    1. Yes, it is nice to be back, starting to have fun again, but in small doses! ;)

  2. Just a question Gilles. I have difficulties in creating the right kind of action poses for my characters. I am studying lots of stick figures and so forth, but I was wondering if you could recommend a good book on drawing action poses.
My figures are quite allright in a calm position, but obviously that is a bit boring.
Maybe you know of a good book. Thanks.

    1. What You are looking for is a book on line of action.

The Preston Blair books cover the subject, these are the first book I bought when I was A teenager, but they are still pretty god.

The only book I have that is specific to this subject is Character Mentor, by Tom Bancroft, it is pretty good, and I also got it from Amazon!

  3. Thanks Gilles. I purchased the book in ebook format, character Mentor. It's awesome. Just what I wanted. So I will be locking myself away for a while now so I can study the book. Ha.
    Have a good weekend.

    1. Glad I could help, have a great week-end as well!
