My name is Gilles Charbonneau

I am a long time 2d animator and I would like to share with you some of the tips and tricks I have learned over the years by posting tutorials and articles on this blog.

Update # 14

Hello everyone!

First of, I am not dead, nor have I quit on my blog.

The truth is, just before Christmas, someone on the LostMarble forum pointed out that the main character from my tutorial set was a close match to an existing character, and he was right.

So, after talking with my family and meeting with a lawyer, I decided not to release the first video set, which was pretty much done BTW!

I am meeting with a specialized lawyer in the States on January the 16ht, to clarify things more, but I have no doubt that she will say the same thing.

I am not willing to put my family in a financial crisis so I can release the first set, there is no way I could do that, especially since that the company who owns the rights to that character is known to bash hard on Copyright infringement.

Now, this said, I have spent most of my holidays working on a new set, and I took special care not to repeat the same mistake.

I am pretty much done animating the final scene and I will reverse engineer the set from it.

I believe this one to be much better then the first one, and I worked my butt off on it.

Again, I am sorry for not showing up here lately, but this is hard work, and I apologize for the tardiness of things, but I can assure all of those who put their trust in me, that they will not be disappointed!

Again, many thanks for your patience!

Gilles

  1. Wow Gilles, thanks for doing what you felt was best. I'm sorry you did all that extra work but it sounds like in the end what you've done will turn out even better.

Thank you so much for your hard work and willingness to share your knowledge of animation with the rest of us.

  3. So true. From all I have seen you do and how faithful and committed you are to your work I was concerned that you were not sick or so.
So I am glad to hear from you.
What a nasty thing to have to suddenly change all your work, and on top of it, you are not getting paid much for it. At least not originally, but once you have a good tutorial like this it will hopefully generate a lot of funds for you in times to come. It is a difficult world at times. Good someone spotted this flaw on time.

  4. Well, thank you so much guys!

I have to do some regular work at the moment, but I spend every free breathing moment I have on the new set, so do not be alarm if I am not posting much.

I need to get these out as soon as possible, for my own sanity, and out of respect to those who trusted me and pre-ordered.

The lawyers are pretty much taking the pre-order money, so I really appreciate those who put a pre-order.

  5. Hi Gilles
I thought you would appreciate a little encouragement for all your hard work, so I put a 30 dollar gift on your account. I know it is not the gift that makes the foundations of this world rock but then again it is meant as a token of appreciation, knowing that the most precious thing you have is time and you spend a lot of it on this project.
Do keep your sanity please. Haha.
God bless and have a good day

  6. Just Saw your donation Dust, thanks! :)

Is there a URL you would like to be linked to your name on my donation's list?

My family keeps me sane, well, sort of, so no worries! ;)

  7. as an artist of many years i understand the road on which you start a project on and just when you feel you have completed a fine piece of work...wham...but from what i have read in your blogs you are a salty seasoned pro and know how to pick yourself up from these set backs and carry on because you believe in yourself and what you want to accomplish...you have a good quality human character (no pun intended) trait which is to be commended...especially in these days of what can you do for me now society...i appreciate your commitment to finishing a quality product...and applaud your tenacity as a person...the road isn't always easy...adversity reveals genius...but believe me with the experience gained the finishing achievement is worth it...again i thank you for all your efforts
